Amelia Andersdotter

Amelia runs dataskydd.net, a policy-oriented NGO in Sweden focussing on data protection and consumer information security in government policy. She does part-time work for the ARTICLE 19-group, has been a visiting scholar at the Centre for Internet and Society in Bangalore, India, and was previously a Member of the European Parliament representing the Swedish Pirate Party.

Since spring of 2016, dataskydd.net has collaborated with the Swedish digital rights group DFRI to push safe-guards into two budding government proposals on lawful hacking, due to be presented in autumn of 2017. Since then, the European Union is stepping up efforts to coordinate member state efforts, and dataskydd.net has also helped initiate prosecution of a suspected unlawful government hacking attempt against an individual. We propose a talk, therefore, updating since the previous BornHack on the developments of these discussions in Sweden since last summer, and an evaluation of progress made in data protection and information security over the course of dataskydd.net activities since 2015.
