Balancing the grid with renewables at scale Feedback

As we decarbonise electricity grids and change the way we use them, with more electric cars, heat pumps and renewables, long held wisdom about how we balance supply & demand no longer holds true.

The UK has seen a massive change in supply sources over the last decade and last year generated 51% of consumption from zero carbon sources.

This has posed a big challenge for the grid operator who needs to balance ever growing demand from greater electrification with less consistent supply from renewables.

We'll look at some of the innovative technology that makes this possible without the lights going out, from using big batteries to tune grid frequency all the way to controlling electric car charging - saving people money in the process! And because I'm a platform engineer, we'll talk about the cloud infrastructure challenges this poses and how we scale this to the world 🚀
