Nicolai Anton Lynnerup

Nicolai Anton Lynnerup is a Research and Innovation Engineer at Universal Robots A/S. Previously he has worked as a Specialist for Danish Technological Institute where he was maturing state-of-the-art research for industrial usage. He holds a PhD degree conducted in collaboration with University of Southern Denmark and Danish Technological Institute which was awarded the highest degree for outstanding research. His B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees are in Advanced Robot Systems Engineering from University of Southern Denmark. During his PhD, Nicolai has published papers in prestigious journals such as IEEE and Journal of Machine Learning Research and has likewise reviewed papers for large conferences such as the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) and the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). He has further been a visiting researcher at Technische Universität Darmstadt with the world-leading department of Intelligent Autonomous Systems, where his supervisor was the pioneering roboticist Jan Peters. His research focuses on bringing AI to real-world robotics in a highly pragmatic way, why reproducibility was one of the key issues addressed in his thesis. He is specifically interested in developing methods that are goal-directed, real-time and multi-modal while having a highly user-centric focus.

Reproducing the work of others is one of the main pillars of scientific research. It allows researchers collectively to advance their research fields and cross-validate results across institutions, circumstances, experimental variation etc. When research is irreproducible, or unable to be replicated, it hinders technological uptake in industry regardless of research area and further impairs the credibility of the academic field. For real-world robot learning reproducibility issues have resul… Read more
