Messaging without Metadata
Feedback
Signal has made huge strides in popularizing end-to-end encrypted chat, but we still lack real-time chat options that protect information about when and with whom we're talking. Messaging systems like Pond have demonstrated practical implementations of hiding traffic patterns from a network observer, and research like DP5 and Loopix have proposed theories for PIR and Mixnet based anonymous messaging systems respectively.
This talk will survey recent advances in private messaging systems, with a focus and demonstration of Talek, a system for low-latency messaging with strong privacy guarantees through PIR.
