I love freedom, and what I love to read in the project its the philosophy that pushes the project, it is lust for freedom, or just desire to demonstrate that is possible to achieve some better results with less resources?
In this talk I'd like to share some links and general knowledge on free software, free hardware and surrounding projects.
It is not illegal to make money using free software, it is quite the contrary, what is is not accepted is the absence of respect for the user. If the use is not at the center, is usually not a good thing. An user is not a product or a resource is what keeps free software alive, it is needed to protect the experience, privacy and dignity by default.
Not just those three thing of course, but it would be a start.
Do you need proof that with free software you can move money? There is a project, that has respect for the user and for the law of business embedded by default, you can find it here:
https://www.taler.net/en/ Taler is a payment system that makes privacy-friendly online transactions fast and easy.
Do you prefer a project that is more projected on the future? GNU net might be for you.
https://www.gnunet.org/en From their website: The Internet is broken
The conventional Internet is currently like a system of roads with deep potholes and highwaymen all over the place. Even if you still can use the roads (e.g. send emails, or browse websites) your vehicle might get hijacked, damaged, or long arms might reach into its back and steal your items (data) to use it against you and sell it to others - while you can't even notice the thievery nor accuse and hold the scroungers accountable. The Internet was not designed with security in mind: protecting against address forgery, routers learning metadata, or choosing trustworthy third parties is nontrivial and sometimes impossible.
GNUnet helps building a new Internet .
GNUnet is a network protocol stack for building secure, distributed, and privacy-preserving applications.
I will talk about philosophies like the one of the RepRap project https://reprap.org/wiki/PhilosophyPage the The Right To Repair Your Body project https://fourthievesvinegar.org the free bios project GNU Boot https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuboot/web - I might introduce some companies that are into free hardware, even if not for all their line of products, like https://prusa3d.com Joseph Prusa is an example of what you can achieve using only free software and free hardware, sharing is caring and it can also be profitable if you are ethical and give back to the community.
