Networking, Internet and TCP/IP for beginners Feedback

Come to this workshop and learn some TCP/IP, terms below will be explained for starters :-D

First I will do a 30min introduction to TCP/IP version 4 and version 6, show and tell with the BornHack network as example. Then afterwards there will be small isolated networks to play with. Learn how DHCP works, configure a router, and connect it to the BornHack network and THE INTERNET!!!!!1111

I will bring network hardware comparable to what you would use in a normal home network, but no other people are connected except you. You are in control and can experiment. Devices will be a some small routers, which are pretty capable GL.Inet routers - have wireguard etc. When workshop finishes you can borrow the devices until BornHack ends. I also bring a number of USB-Ethernet you can borrow.

You can

  • Learn how to connect a router to an ISP - BornHack being the Internet Service Provider here
  • Play with a 2-port switch, built-into the router
  • Do ping and traceroute with confidence
  • Learn how to check your own internet domain setup, look up DNS records with local tools or web sites like https://internet.nl
  • Setup Wireguard VPN tunnel from your laptop to the router, then visit another village and connect back to your home, your tent

I will also try to bring some cheap Ethernet cables for selling 10m/20m/30m - so you can connect your tent/village later
