Co-creating a DDoS Taxonomy Feedback

It has been more than 20 years since MafiaBoy launched Denial of Service attacks against large sites like Yahoo, Amazon etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Calce

Still we have trouble with DDoS attacks and we do have some solutions. We think it would be beneficial to create a common shared taxonomy of DDoS attack types and would like to invite participants at BornHack to join in creating this.

We will have made some preparations, like adding the common types of known DDoS attacks, and hopefully your knowledge, creativity and discussion will help us map even more types.

There will be a workshop before this one, which will allow you to try out DDoS attacks, and get into the mood by doing a few common attacks in a lab environment. Such as:

  • TCP SYN flooding
  • TCP other flooding
  • UDP flooding NTP, etc.
  • ICMP flooding Misc

This workshop is part of a research and documentation project at KEA.dk.

Note to participants: There WILL BE RECORDINGS done - we aim to capture parts of the workshop by the nice people from KEA. The data is for internal use only, and we will make sure to have signs up. If you do not feel up for this, come and talk to us outside of the workshop.
