hagen.\n\nMany nice FOSS tools for network routing exist\, but we found th
at technical details on IXPs are not as easily searchable and available as
one would like. \n\nWe will show how PeeringDB and a route server ([AS602
47](https://as60247.peeringdb.com/)) help connecting our peers and which B
GP filtering strategies we use. Hardware and server housing are of course\
, also needed in order to physically connect your peering clients.\nThere
is also the administrative part: you would need an Autonomous System Numbe
r (ASN) in order to do real networking routing\, but how do you find a fri
endly sponsoring Local Internet Registry (LIR) to get a hold of IP resourc
es? And what about the RIPE database entries? Which do we need?

nDo you also have consent fatigue? Are you also worried about the directio
n things are heading?\n\nI would like to start an action-oriented conversa
tion around understanding digital consent in a new and fundamentally diffe
rent way.\n\nWe need of course to move away from the awful "cookie banners
" and to be asking people about 1) real and informed consent 2) when it ma
tters and 3) offering them solutions to audit\, understand\, manage and re
voke consent.\n\nHere's a rough draft of what we'll go through:\n\n1. Cook
ie banners: How consent is currently (mis)managed\n2. Understanding and de
fining consent differently\n3. How a better digital consent solution could
look\n4. An Open Source solution (spoilers: I want YOU to help build some
thing)\n\nDisclaimer:\n\nThis talk is heavily improvised and experimental
in the sense that it's looking for your feedback. Don't expect beautiful s
lides or a clear message.\n\nAs prior background to this work\, I've worke
d with a government perspective of consent in [GovStack](https://www.govst
ack.global/)'s working group for a Consent Building Block. In the working
group\, we have released the first early version of a specification for a
generic consent platform for government solutions. The specification conta
ins both a definition of consent\, a set of functional requirements and AP
 I specifications for implementing parties.

al communication in the EU is scanned to detect child abuse crimes. This s
canning will scrutinize private messages\, voice chats and photos that cit
izens send to each other. The new law will also require that chat program
developers include functionality to scan the messages before they get encr
ypted so that even end-to-end-encrypted messages can be scanned.\n\nThis p
roposed law is a massive violation of the confidentiality of personal comm
unication. Various legal assessments have pointed out that this law is not
compatible with the existing EU laws and various technical assessments ha
ve made it clear that the proposed technological solution will not effecti
vely help to achieve the aim of protecting children and massive negative s
ide effects are to be expected. And yet\, the EU commission still tries to
push this law forward.\n\nWe will look at the history of the law\, the cu

 an-we-build-one-that-sucks-less/\n\nSpeaker(s): Auke van Slooten\n\nRecord
ed: Yes\n\nStreamed: Yes\n\nI've been building software that connects to r
emote API's for 20+ years\, and it is still one of the most frustrating pa
rts of my work. Even the best REST API's\, with GraphQL and all\, still re
quire carefully crafted client code. Why isn't this solved already? Or if
it is\, why don't we use any of those solutions? Can we get out of the tar
-pit?\n\nOne of the issues\, I believe\, is that REST is not well defined
and not well fitted to the API space. JSON itself is too limited. The whol
e premise of REST is that the type of information defines the interactions
you can have. JSON has just 5 types\, and no links. So we've had to repur
pose property names to stand in for types. That ends up creating all sorts
of problems higher up in the stack.\nLinked Data and Solid (https://solid
project.org/) give a glimpse of a potential solution. Unfortunately Linked
Data doesn't fit the mental model of most developers\, and certainly does
n't fit the internal application data model of browser based javascript ap
plications.\nFinally REST and Solid fundamentally muddy the waters by havi
ng URL's point to documents\, which can have any data. So you can never te
ll up front which data to expect from a certain endpoint.\n\nI will provid
e a few examples of well intentioned but unfortunate API's\, from luminari
es like Microsoft Azure\, to less well-known\, but more hilarious niche AP
I's. Not to shame them\, but to make it abundantly clear that creating a g
ood REST API is almost impossible.\n\nThen I'll present my own attempt at
building an API that has meaningful data\, Linked Data light\, if you will
\, that is identical with your application data model\, that is discoverab
le and predictable. Where you don't need to learn a new paradigm or new qu
ery language. \n\nIt's called SimplyStore\, open source (MIT license) and

DESCRIPTION:URL: https://bornhack.dk/bornhack-2023/program/kicad-pcb-desig
 n-workshop/\n\nSpeaker(s): Theo Borm\n\nRecorded: No\n\nStreamed: No\n\nIm
 agine\, you've built a few electronics projects. Perhaps a few kits\, with
all the parts and a ready made Printed Circuit Board (PCB) included\, may
be a few projects on a breadboard with Dupont wires\, perhaps even with an
arduino\, and maybe you even realized a design of your own on a raster bo
ard. Now you want to proceed to the next level: Create your own profession
al looking printed circuit board. So you looked at what tools are availabl
e that are both free as in free beer AND free as in freedom\, and no doubt
you have come across a program called KiCAD. KiCAD is a professional qual
ity PCB design suite.\n\nStarting with KiCAD can be daunting. You'll have
to learn a new vocabulary. You'll have to learn a bit about generic PCB ma
nufacturing technology. You'll have to learn how to deal with the capabil
ities and requirements of a specific PCB manufacturer\, and how to work th
ese into a design that can actually be manufactured. But most importantly\
, you will have to learn how KiCAD works and adopt a workflow.\n\nWe will
start with a presentation of about 30 minutes to introduce The goals of th
 e workshop(*)\, Concepts\, Vocabulary and a Workflow. Then you will have a
bout quarter of an hour to install KiCAD on your device (BYOD) and find a
mate with whom to work through the guided tutorial in about 60 minutes.\n\
nThe workshop goes through the process of making a *basic* PCB design fro
m start to finish. You start with creating a project and enter a schematic
with symbols and connections between them. Then you will select footprint
s for each of the parts\, create an outline for your PCB\, place the footp
rints on the PCB and draw the wiring between pins. Next you will generate
the files that you can send to your PCB manufacturer to actually make your
PCBs. Besides the basic tutorial\, there are "side trails" explaining how
to add symbols to your own symbol library\, how to add footprints to your
own footprint library\, how to verify schematic designs\, how to set desi
gn rules for a project\, how to verify PCB designs\, how to add power plan
es\, how to use KICAD to make multiple PCBs in one project and how to use
KiCAD to create PCB's with more than two layers.\n\n\n\n(*) (The main goal
is "to make a PCB design for an electronic circuit using KiCAD"\, NOT "to
design an electronic circuit"\, NOR "compare KiCAD to $OTHER_DESIGN_TOOL"

 \nSpeaker(s): musikeR\n\nRecorded: Yes\n\nStreamed: Yes\n\nI find OpenBSD
easy to use\, and so it is the one I run R on. Few people use R on OpenBSD
\, or any *BSD for that matter. What's more\, most useRs use different ope
 rating systems\, unfortunately non-free operating systems like Windows\, M
ac\, and proprietary GNU/Linux distributions. Quite often\, a package does
n't work on OpenBSD\, so I'll show you what to do when that happens. But i
t's worth it\, because by running R on OpenBSD\, you can take advantage of
R's and OpenBSD's unique features.\n\nR itself is free and a part of the
GNU project\, and if you are accustomed to free Unix-like hacker-ethical s
oftwares\, you will be at home with the old useRs who continue to develop
with hacker-appropriate practices. Unfortunately\, it has become popular i
n recent years to mix R with proprietary software and to standardize on ha
rd-to-port software. I will share how I deal with the difficulty of interf
acing between the different sects of useRs.\n\nIf you use R\, you might le
arn something about OpenBSD and about how to run your R software more reli
ably. Among contemporary useRs it is very common to limit ones' tools to t
hose that can be installed by R. Knowing how to interface with other progr
ams and with different operating system\, you get more options and can oft
en accomplish tasks more simply than with R packages alone.

ting to spread just the right amount of solder paste onto the PCB right wh
ere it is needed\, use tweezers to place the components onto the thus prim
ed PCB and finally a hotplate to solder all components in one go\, and\, w
hile doing this\, learn various tricks to make SMD soldering more enjoyabl
e\n\nYou'll make badge PCB to write your name on\, with a microcontroller\
 , some resistors\, 40 LEDs\, a battery holder and IR receiver/transmitter
to communicate with other badges around you at a cost of 13HAX or 1 euro 8
0 for the materials\, including batteries.

 -packets/\n\nSpeaker(s): Kramse\n\nRecorded: No\n\nStreamed: No\n\nA small
workshop teaching people how to produce DDoS simulation traffic - useful
for testing their own infrastructures.\n\nWe will have a server connected
on 10Gbps on a switch with multiple 1Gbps port for attackers. Attackers ca
n be connected through 1Gbps ports using USB Ethernet - we have loaners.\n
\nWork together to produce enough to take down this server!\n\nWHILE attac
k is ongoing there will be ample opportunities to monitor traffic\, monito
r port\, and decide on changes to prevent the attacks from working.\n\nWe
will work through common attack types using hping3 and T50 packet generato
rs\, like:\n\n TCP SYN flooding\n TCP other flooding\n UDP floodi
ng NTP\, etc.\n ICMP flooding Misc - stranger attacks and illegal combi
nations of flags etc. then we will implement the changes suggested and ret
ry attacks. You will go away from this with tools for producing packets\,
like hping3\, PenguinPing and some configurations for protecting - PF rule
s\, switch rules\, server firewall rules.\n\nNote: course materials are op
